Serpent and Yggdrasil Ouroboros Pendant - Stainless Steel

Pendant depicting the enormous dragon-serpent Nidhoggr biting its own tail in a traditional ouroboros circle design. In Norse mythology, Nidhoggr is the dragon that gnaws and chews away at the root of the world tree, Yggdrasil. In turn, the roots of the world tree are holding this dragon in captivity, preventing him from escaping and wreaking havoc on all living things. Symbolic of invisible danger to the entire world that the world itself is preventing from escaping, Nidhoggr was considered to be the inevitable evil in every day’s living that could not be prevented, only fought and braved. 

Yggdrasil is the world tree in Norse mythology and its trunk is the center of Nordic spiritual cosmos. Nine worlds are connected by Yggdrasil, and all Gods go to this tree daily to perform their duties. In Norse culture and many other cultures around the globe, the tree often represents the eternal life. The constant cycle of death and rebirth brought the belief that life is cyclical and therefore eternal. The world tree became a popular symbol of such belief all over the Earth, and its imagery was often included in religious rituals or depicted on sacred charms.
